#HumansOfImpactHub: Matthias Laabs
“Four years ago I started off playing around with it, just for fun. I never expected it to become so successful.
Android was hardly being used at that time, and their calendar app was kind of crappy. That’s why, next to my full time job with a research institute, I built a useful calendar app in my freetime: aCalendar.
When I realized that Android was becoming more widespread and the demand for a good calendar app might grow, I went on sales with aCalendar. Just to see what was going to happen.
After the first week aCalendar was downloaded more than 1000 times. I was astounded and my company was born. I called it Tapir Apps. Because I like Tapirs. 10% of Tapir Apps’ revenues go to the World Land Trust that buys rainforest in the Ecuadorian Andes to protect the Tapir’s habitat. All because I wasn’t content with the Android calendar.”
Our series #humansofimpacthub regularly features people from the Impact Hub Munich environment and their personal stories.
